Where is the best place to buy a used car?

If you’ve decided to opt for a used car, there are several recommended places to buy a car. Most people choose to buy a car:

  • from Germany. This way, you can find a quality used car at a reasonable price by turning to friends or acquaintances who do so on a daily basis;
  • from the salon. It is also possible to buy a used car in a showroom. It is not always possible to get a new car only by going to the showroom owners. People often go to showrooms to drop off their used cars and buy new ones;
  • from friends or family. You may often notice friends, relatives or acquaintances posting on their social networking profiles about a trusted car for sale, thereby favouring their other friends and giving the impression that the car will be exactly as advertised;
  • from autoplans. Selling used cars on car fleets is popular and often involves buying cars, as dealers keep an eye on the latest car ads in Lithuania or Germany, for example, when importing cars from these countries into Latvia;
  • from classifieds sites. The cars available on classifieds sites are often cheap and it is relatively more difficult to buy a used car than from other outlets, as there are several cars of a certain make and model on offer, which makes it more difficult to decide which offer to consider and which is not.

But what are the main risks of buying a used car and how can you avoid them? More on that later!

Risks – avoid them before buying a car!

Before you decide which car to buy, it is a good idea to consider all the risks and benefits. The main advantage, of course, is saving money by buying a second-hand car, given the fact that a car loses at least 10% of its value by the time it leaves the showroom. But what are the risks of buying a used car?

  1. Inadequate condition of the machine. This risk is particularly acute when buying a car from a poster or classifieds website, where the seller claims that the car is in better condition than it is.
  2. Inadequate mileage. If maintenance is not carried out on time, based on the kilometres covered, normal problems can occur with the engine and other parts of the car, leading to additional costs.
  3. The car may be stolen. If you bought your car from another country, there is a good chance it may have been stolen. Such cases are rare, but cannot be ruled out completely.

If you don’t have enough money to buy the car you want most, leasing, hire purchase or a guaranteed loan can help. Find out what the most popular used cars are and find the one that suits you!
